Do You Need a Celebrant to Renew Your Vows? Who Can Lead a Vow Renewal

Who leads your promises when you say them again under a glowing sunset.

Short summer reads…

Do you need a celebrant to renew your vows? Legally, no. A vow renewal has no legal status in the UK, so anyone can lead one, or the two of you can simply speak to each other with nobody else there at all.

I'm Leon of Twilight Ceremonies, an accredited celebrant and photographer based in Llandudno. Here is who can lead a renewal, and what changes when a celebrant does it.

Who Can Lead a Vow Renewal

A friend, a family member, one of your children, or nobody but yourselves. Because nothing is being registered, there are no rules about who stands in front of you. Is a vow renewal legally binding covers the questions couples usually ask next.

What a Celebrant Adds

A celebrant writes the ceremony with you and holds it together on the evening, so you can both be present rather than reading from your phone. I shape the words around the years you have shared, from how you met to the chapters since.

Writing Your Refreshed Vows

We work on your vows together over the months before summer, at your own pace. Many couples find it easier with a little guidance, and what to say when renewing your vows has ideas to get you started.

A Celebrant Who Is Also the Photographer

With me, there is one person, not two. My Sunset Vow Renewal is £450.00 on the live offerings page, with a personalised sunset ceremony and ten Polaroids handed to you the same evening. If you eloped with Elope with Leon, your package includes either a free celebration or 15% off.

Wherever You Stand

North Wales gives you Nefyn, Llanddwyn, West Shore and the Conwy estuary, but you can choose anywhere: your back garden, the place you married, elsewhere in the UK or abroad, and Ibiza is one we can talk about.

You do not need anyone to make your promises count, but it can help to have someone guide them. Speak to an experienced wedding celebrant and we can talk through yours.

Your promises, your words, and someone to hold the moment for you.
