Summer Anniversary Ideas in North Wales
Your anniversary deserves more than a dinner reservation. Let's take it outdoors this summer.
Short summer reads…
Wedding anniversaries can often become overlooked as life gets that much busier, but your marriage is so worth celebrating. If you're looking for anniversary ideas in North Wales, summer is the perfect time: long, warm evenings, golden sunsets and miles of coastline and mountains on your doorstep. Here are some ideas to get you started, whether it's your first anniversary or your fortieth.
1. Have a sunset ceremony on the beach
There's nothing quite like joining hands on the sand as the sun sinks into the sea. West Shore in Llandudno is home to some of the best sunsets in North Wales, and you'll hear the waves gently rippling as we celebrate your marriage through a personalised ceremony.
A Milestone Ceremony is made for exactly this. It recognises the years you've spent together and the achievements you're proud of, and it includes a personalised sunset ceremony with 10 Polaroid photographs as a keepsake.
2. Pack a picnic and let the Polaroids roll
Not every celebration needs a ceremony. Choose a quiet space, bring a picnic and simply enjoy each other's company while the sun goes down. With a Couples Sunset Shoot, I capture the soft, intimate moments through my Polaroid lens, and you're handed 10 Polaroids the same evening, along with 60 digital photographs for prints, sharing and socials.
It's a relaxed, warm-hearted way to celebrate, and a great choice if you'd rather keep things low-key.
3. Renew your vows
Your wedding vows have carried you to this moment. A vow renewal lets you refresh them and shape them around the life you share now. It's one of the most meaningful anniversary ideas there is, and because a vow renewal isn't a legal ceremony, there's no paperwork to worry about. A Renewal of Vows includes a personalised sunset ceremony at a location of your choosing, with 10 Polaroid photographs handed to you on the same evening.
4. Spend an evening at a lighthouse
Anglesey has two beautiful lighthouses that make a romantic setting for an anniversary. South Stack Lighthouse is renowned for its fantastic sunsets throughout the summer, with grassy clifftops and miles of sea as your backdrop. Parking there is run by the RSPB.
For something quieter, Penmon is small and intimate, with the striped Trwyn Du lighthouse and Puffin Island just offshore. The beach is pebbly rather than sandy, but there's a real sense of stillness here, and plenty of space to have a ceremony away from any crowds. A small toll applies to drive the last stretch of road down to the point.
5. Head up the Great Orme

The Great Orme is a lush place to celebrate in the summertime. It's full of greenery and flowers, and it's home to goats who may photobomb your photos if they're feeling up to it! You can drive the Marine Drive toll road around the headland (£5.80 per car, which also covers parking at the summit) or walk it for free, then find a vantage point overlooking West Shore as the sun goes down.
6. Save your winter anniversary for the summer
Does your anniversary land in the cold winter months? You can still celebrate on the day, but why not save the bigger celebration for the summer? I wrote about this in Empowering Married Couples: there's no need to be stuck indoors when you could be catching the sun's rays on a beach in July.
7. Return to where it all began
If you eloped in North Wales, why not go back to the place where you said "I do"? Penny and James were married beside the lonely tree in Llanberis, and Dean and Tori amongst the rolling hills of Snowdonia. Now Twilight Ceremonies gives couples like them the chance to commemorate their marriage under glowing sunsets. You can read their stories on my love stories page.
8. Take a sunset stroll along the seafront

Sometimes the simplest ideas are the best. An evening walk along the promenade at Llandudno, hand in hand as the sky turns orange, is a beautiful way to end a day together. Summer evenings here are long, with the sun setting at around 9.45pm in Llandudno at midsummer and around 9.10pm at the start of August, so there's no need to rush.
9. Add a little something extra
Want to make it even more special? You can add extras to your Twilight Ceremony for £50 each, including drone coverage (depending on the location), a video and audio recording of your ceremony, or more candid digital photographs before and after your ceremony.
Keep the celebration going
Your anniversary doesn't have to be a one-off. Your photographs can be added to your Love Story Album, and with the Love Story Registry at Leon Bagnall Experiences, you can receive a commemorative letter, handpicked imagery and bespoke flowers on your anniversary.
Twilight Ceremonies is exclusively open in the summer months, so let's get chatting and craft an anniversary that's personalised with your touch. See all of my sunset locations for more inspiration.
