Anniversary Sunsets on Anglesey: Trearddur Bay, Penmon and South Stack
Three Anglesey places for an anniversary sunset under a glowing sunset.
Short summer reads…
Anglesey is a wonderful place for an anniversary ceremony. It has long beaches, small coves, lighthouses and clifftops, and it all sits a short drive from the next one. The trouble is choosing between them, because they each feel completely different at the end of a summer day.
I've picked three from my locations page: Trearddur Bay, Penmon and South Stack. Here's how I'd think about each of them.
Trearddur Bay for an Easy, Romantic Evening

Head west and you'll find Trearddur Bay, with its sweeping beaches and intimate coves. It's a romantic setting for a sunset ceremony, and it makes the evening simple. There are amenities close by, along with places to stay, so you can spend the night in Anglesey after your ceremony rather than driving home with sand in your shoes.
I'd suggest Trearddur Bay to couples who'd like their anniversary to feel relaxed and unhurried. You can walk, talk, renew your vows and sit down to dinner nearby afterwards, all without rushing.
Penmon for Quiet and a Lighthouse

Penmon is a quiet part of North Wales, and the lighthouse gives you a beautiful backdrop for a renewal of vows or a personalised ceremony. The beach is small and intimate, with plenty of other spots around it where we can have your ceremony away from crowds and beachgoers. Expect stillness and a sense of relaxation.
One honest note: Penmon is Anglesey's easternmost tip, jutting into Conwy Bay, according to Visit Anglesey. So I'd choose it for the calm and the lighthouse rather than for watching the sun sink into the sea. The last stretch to the Point is a private toll road for cars, so check the current arrangements before you travel.
South Stack for Big Skies

South Stack Lighthouse is renowned for its fantastic sunsets throughout the summer. You can stand on the grassy fields and look out to miles of sea, which makes a lovely backdrop for your Polaroid pictures.
It helps to know that the lighthouse itself sits on a small island at the north west tip of Wales, reached by about 400 steps and a bridge, and access depends on the weather and opening hours (check Visit Anglesey before you set out). For a ceremony, I'd keep us on the cliff-top fields, where the views are wide and everyone can stand comfortably.
Choosing Between Them
If you'd like the sun itself to be part of the picture, the western side of the island is the place to look, so Trearddur Bay and South Stack are the obvious choices. If you'd rather have gentle, quiet surroundings and a lighthouse, Penmon is the one. And if you're unsure, tell me what your anniversary usually looks like. A couple who love long walks will want something different from a couple who'd like a drink and a view.
Whichever you choose, check your sunset time for your date. In Llandudno the sun sets at roughly 9.45pm around midsummer, and on Anglesey it's usually a few minutes later. It moves earlier through the season, so we plan backwards from the light.
Check Permission First
Some of the best viewpoints are cared for by organisations such as the RSPB, the National Trust or Natural Resources Wales, and South Stack is one of those places. Before you set your heart on a spot, it's always worth checking whether an organised ceremony needs their permission. It's something we'd look at together once you've chosen your favourite.
A Few Practical Tips
The coast can be breezy even on a warm evening, so bring a layer for after the sun goes down. A relaxed afternoon somewhere you love works well before the ceremony, while I capture candid photographs in the background, and then a picnic before the sun sets. Summer weather in Wales can still change, so we'll always have a back-up spot in mind.
What You Can Choose
You can choose a Renewal of Vows or a Milestone Ceremony, both from £450, or a Couples Sunset Shoot from £95. The ceremonies include 10 Polaroids handed to you the same evening, and the shoot comes with 10 Polaroids and 60 digital photographs. You can add optional extras for £50 each, such as a video and audio recording of your ceremony, extra candid photographs or drone coverage where the location allows. My guide to planning a vow renewal in North Wales explains how a ceremony comes together. If you'd like some ideas for what to do around it, there's more in my post on summer anniversary ideas in North Wales.
Season I of Twilight Ceremonies is taking bookings for summer 2027, and the winter months are a good time to plan. If your anniversary falls in January, my post on saving your celebration for summer shows how that works.
The Same Coast, Another Kind of Evening
If you're curious how an Anglesey evening looks through my camera, I've photographed a short-notice sunset proposal on Anglesey with Where Two Bloom. It's the same coastline and the same kind of light, just a different kind of question.
